Nicklas Backstrom suffered an apparent head injury Tuesday night after taking an elbow from Flames forward Rene Bourque. Whether he has a concussion, how severe or whether he experienced migraines is still to be determined, according to his brother.
Kristoffer Backstrom posted on Twitter Wednesday morning that the Washington Capitals’ leading scorer was to have a concussion test and then that it was done and the doctor “couldn’t tell today but a small concussion/migraine.”
The team did not officially confirm that Backstrom underwent a concussion test, though a spokesman said there was normal evaluation to go along with protocol. Coach Dale Hunter said he took part in off-ice workouts.
Krystoffer Backstrom added that his brother would have another test Thursday. Nicklas Backstrom has been bothered by migraines in the past.
Nicklas Backstrom was not made available to speak to reporters Wednesday as the Caps had an optional practice. A team spokesman said coach Dale Hunter would provide an update on his status.
