SAN JOSE, Calif. | Not again.

Again Mike Green was back from injury and again he had to leave a Washington Capitals game before its completion. This time it took just a game and a half, as the All-Star defenseman took just three shifts in the second, the last coming with 9:54 remaining in the period.

Green took a hard hit from San Jose Sharks center Andrew Desjardins, but coach Dale Hunter said it was a groin problem that led to his departure.

It got a little tight, so we’re being careful with him,” Hunter said. “We took him and pulled him out.”

Asked about the hit from Desjardins causing an injury, Hunter replied: No. it was just tightening up a bit.”

Green was limited to nine shifts and 7:11.

The last time Green came back from injury (ankle), he played just over seven minutes Nov. 11 at the New Jersey Devils before straining his right groin. He played 7:10 in that game.
