The Washington Times - March 5, 2012, 11:34AM

Early Tuesday a report surfaced out of Sweden that concussed Washington Capitals star Nicklas Backstrom was back in his home country to see a specialist.

The Caps confirmed that Backstrom was indeed in Sweden but are saying he’s there to visit with family and get away from a hockey environment. They said he’s not there to see a specialist.

Backstrom is set to return from his visit to Sweden on Sunday, and though it’s not certain exactly how long he has been there.

It’s a similar situation to what the team did with Mike Green during his concussion last season, recommending that he go home to Calgary to get away.

The Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that Backstrom was seeing a doctor before returning to the United States.

Backstrom has not played since taking an elbow to the head from Rene Bourque on Jan. 3. He skated five minutes Jan. 23 but nothing since.

There is no timetable for Backstrom’s return.
