Jeff Halpern shrugged it off. One shift in the third period Sunday night, but the Washington Capitals forward insisted Monday he was fine.
Halpern took part in Monday’s practice, skating on a line with Keith Aucoin and Joel Ward. Leave it to coach Dale Hunter to explain Halpern’s absence for a big chunk of the third against the Flyers.
“He was good. He just, you know, a bruise, and he wasn’t quite up to playing. But again we were down a goal and so goal scorers,” Hunter said. “Halpy is more of a checking centerman and you basically double shift your top line in the third.”
Halpern is expected to be good to go to play Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, Hunter confirmed.
Halpern, 35, has taken his fair share of maintenance days this season, not a surprise given his veteran status. But he has also been one of the best forecheckers recently, specifically when playing with Jay Beagle and Ward.
