With the Hershey Bears bowing out of the Calder Cup Playoffs in the first round over the weekend, it was a matter of time until the Washington Capitals called up a few reinforcements.

That came Tuesday morning with the recalls of goaltender Dany Sabourin, defenseman Sean Collins and forward Cody Eakin. Defenseman Cameron Schilling was also skating with the Caps, though he’s not an official recall and thus isn’t eligible to play in the playoffs.

Sabourin and Eakin started the playoffs with the Caps before both were sent down to play and try to help Hershey beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Sabourin struggled back in the American Hockey League, putting up an .882 save percentage.

It’s unlikely any of these players get into a game for the Caps, given that they already have extras at each position.
