NEW YORK | Jay Beagle’s absence on the ice for Saturday’s morning skate at Madison Square Garden before Game 7 was not surprising. The Washington Capitals’ most improved forward was not expected to play against the New York Rangers.

But then Alexander Semin was not on the ice, either. Caps morning skates are optional, which is likely to be Dale Hunter’s answer when asked about the Russian winger not taking part.

Coach Dale Hunter again called Beagle “day-to-day.” When asked about playing in Game 7, he answered “game-time decision.” Beagle very likely will not play.

Asked about Semin’s absence, Hunter called the skate optional and confirmed that he would play.

Every other healthy player was on the ice for the skate.
