NHL Network picking up Memorial Cup games

← return to Capitals Watch

If you can’t get enough hockey and the Stanley Cup Playoffs aren’t enough, the NHL Network is picking up coverage of the Memorial Cup starting Friday night.

The Memorial Cup, essentially the final four of Canadian junior hockey, this year should be especially enticing for Washington Capitals fans. Prospect Stan Galiev leads the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Saint John Sea Dogs, and ex-coach Dale Hunter’s London Knights are involved as well. The Shawinigan Cataractes and Edmonton Oil Kings fill out the field.

Dale Hunter won’t be behind the bench, leaving the coaching duties to brother Mark. But he will be in attendance.

“I’m a fan this week,” Hunter said Monday.

Galiev had 16 goals and 18 assists in 17 in the QMJHL playoffs after missing most of the year with a broken wrist.
