Brooks Laich and the Washington Capitals played into Thursday morning in losing Game 3 to the New York Rangers in triple overtime. Laich might’ve been so exhausted that his subconscious started playing tricks on him.
“I woke up and for some reason I thought the season was over,” he said. “I had a deep sleep, I had a long deep sleep and I thought the season was over. And then it refreshed in my mind that we only lost one hockey game, that it’s 2-1. We’re still in a good position.”
Laich seemed to accept the 2-1 triple-OT loss in the minutes after, and he had moved past it and into appreciation of it by Friday after a day off.
“I had a good day away from the rink. It was sunny outside. We’re in the same position we were in in Round 1,” he said, referencing the deficit in Boston Bruins series. “Somebody’s going to win that hockey game, and somebody’s going to lose. Unfortunately we didn’t win it, but all that it’s going to do is motivate us more to win Game 4.”
