Alex Ovechkin will not face any supplemental discipline for his hit on Dan Girardi during Game 4 on Saturday afternoon. The Capitals had not heard anything from the league by late morning Sunday, and the two-minute minor penalty for charging will be the only consequences on the play.

Told of Girardi’s comments that Ovechkin hit the New York Rangers defenseman in the head, the Washington Capitals captain said: “I didn’t feel and I didn’t see contact with the head at all.”

Coach Dale Hunter admitted Saturday afternoon that he hadn’t seen a replay of the hit, on which Ovechkin appeared to leave his feet to hit Girardi up high. He stuck with his stance Sunday.

“Incidental contact,” Hunter said. “They collided with each other.”

Asked if Ovechkin, a repeat offender, had to be careful with such hits, Hunter said: “I think everybody has to.”
