It was just a matter of time.
With no collective bargaining agreement and no formal talks planned, the NHL on Wednesday officially canceled all preseason games through Sept. 30. That’s 60 games total.
For the Washington Capitals, it means the cancellation of three games: Sept. 25 vs. the Boston Bruins at Verizon Center, Sept. 26 vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore and Sept. 30 at the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
Fans who had tickets to those games will receive full refunds.
The announcement by the league came as no surprise. As of now, the Caps have four preseason game scheduled (Oct. 1 at the Blue Jackets, Oct. 3 at the Bruins, Oct. 5 vs. the Nashville Predators and Oct. 7 vs. the Red Wings). Barring a surprise agreement in the near future, those games will also go by the wayside.
