Capitals playoff schedule: Rangers series starts Thursday

The NHL playoff schedule is out, and the Washington Capitals open their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers on Thursday at Verizon Center.

Game 1 is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, giving the Caps and Rangers each a four-day break before the start of the playoffs. Game 2 is Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The Caps and Rangers get a practice/travel day Sunday and resume the series with Game 3 Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. Game 4 is Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Game 5, if necessary, would be Friday, May 10 back at Verizon Center. Game 6 would be Sunday, May 12 at Madison Square Garden.

Taylor Swift is at Verizon Center May 11 and 12. Game 7, if necessary, would be Monday, May 13, meaning back-to-back games with travel involved. A similar situation happened with the Caps and Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2009 playoffs because of a Yanni concert.

GAME 7*: Monday, May 13 at Washington, TBA
