John Carlson is the lone Capitals player on the roster for USA Hockey’s orientation camp next month at Kettler Iceplex in Arlington, but the Washington defenseman will have plenty of star-studded company.

Patrick Kane (Blackhawks), Jonathan Quick (Kings), Phil Kessel (Maple Leafs), Zach Parise (Wild), Dustin Brown (Kings), Jimmy Howard (Red Wings), Ryan Miller (Sabres) and Ryan Suter (Wild) all are slated for the Aug. 26-27 camp at the Capitals’ practice facility. The camp will provide USA coach Dan Bylsma (Penguins) and team executives with a look at candidates to represent the U.S. in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Sixteen of the 48 players invited have previous Olympic experience. Brown, Parise and Suter were alternate captains on the 2010 team that took silver in Vancouver.

Carlson, a New Jersey native, was an alternate captain on the U.S.’s 2010 World Junior Championship team. His overtime goal beat Canada 6-5 in the final to give the U.S. the gold medal in that competition.
