Joel Rechlicz will remain in the Washington Capitals family, as the organization announced Wednesday it has re-signed the enforcer to a one-year, two-way contract.

The 26-year-old played in three games with the Capitals during the 2011-12 season. He opened this past season in the Phoenix Coyotes organization but was reacquired by Washington in April and sent to AHL Hershey. He racked up 154 penalty minutes in 40 AHL games between Hershey and Portland this season.

Rechlicz has appeared in 26 NHL games with the Capitals and New York Islanders, tallying 105 penalty minutes along the way. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, there’s no doubt about the forward’s role. He has 799 PIM in 162 career AHL games.
