NEW YORK | An injury to Ryane Clowe was enough to get Chris Kreider into the Rangers’ lineup for Game 6. It remains to be seen if the forward’s performance will be enough to get him out of coach John Tortorella’s dog house.

With the Rangers missing Clowe (suspected concussion) and Darroll Powe (concussion), Kreider was the choice to fill in against the Washington Capitals. New York is on the brink of elimination.

Brian Boyle, Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin have two goals apiece, while Derick Brassard, Dan Girardi, Arron Asham and Brad Richards have each scored one (courtesy Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News). Rick Nash has yet to score.

Kreider, 22, had five goals and two assists in 18 Stanley Cup playoff games in 2012. He played in Game 1 against the Caps, was a minus-1 and hasn’t seen the ice since.

Kreider scored a memorable goal in Game 1 last season against Braden Holtby and the Caps.

Rookie Tom Wilson will play his second career NHL playoff game for the Caps after making his debut in Game 5 Friday. Wilson played 6:24 and was noticeable on a couple of fourth-line shifts.

Adam Oates and Calle Johansson went back to the previous defensive pairings after flip-flopping John Erskine and Jack Hillen in Game 5. It’s Erskine with John Carlson and Hillen with Steve Oleksy to begin Game 6 at Madison Square Garden.
