Brian Boyle returned to the Rangers lineup and Derek Dorsett made his New York debut for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon.

Boyle and Dorsett replaced Chris Kreider and Kris Newbury. Left wing Ryan Clowe and defenseman Marc Staal remained out.

Before the game, Caps players and coach Adam Oates were asked what it meant for the Rangers to get some injured players back.

“It might change a matchup, but it’s not going to change the way we play,” Oates said. “It’s not going to change the way they play. Obviously every team wants all their guys in. They get some guys in the lineup. You know what? We know the way they play, and we have to be prepared for that.”

Boyle, who will center Darroll Powe and Arron Asham, and Dorsett, who will be on right wing with Derick Brassard and Taylor Pyatt, bring some size and physicality to the lineup for New York, which lost Game 1 Thursday night.

Dorsett will be playing his first game for the Rangers since being dealt there from the Columbus in the Marian Gaborik trade at the deadline. The Caps are very familiar with Boyle, whom defenseman Karl Alzner called “a big presence out there.”

“He’s very good at faceoffs. He’s a big, strong man,” forward Matt Hendricks said. “I think he does his homework on us. He sees our tendencies; he knows how to beat us on draws. He’s very good there, he’s very good down low. He’s a big, big man and he’s phyiscal and when the puck’s on his stick and they’re in their cycle it’s hard to knock him off the puck.”

The Caps’ lineup remains the same, no surprise given how well they played five-on-five in Game 1.

“I told the guys yesterday I thought we played a solid hockey game and they should feel good about themselves,” Oates said. “Win or lose, you want to obviously have a feeling on how you play, and I told them I thought they played a good game.”

Goaltender Braden Holtby made 35 saves in the Game 1 win.
