NEW YORK | Marc Staal unexpectedly is not in the Rangers’ lineup for Game 4 against the Capitals on Wednesday night, while Ryane Clowe is making his series debut.
Staal played 17:17 in Game 3 Monday night, his first game since suffering a right eye injury March 5. He said not having perfect, “20/20” vision was something he would adjust to.
Instead, he’s scratched and ex-Washington defenseman Steve Eminger is back in.
Up front, left wing Ryane Clowe is in, hours after he said there was a “good chance” he’d play. It’s his first game since April 25.
“There might have been a couple setbacks, and you just try to keep moving forward,” Clowe said after the Rangers’ optional morning skate at Madison Square Garden. “But I think obviously [Tuesday] I did some contact for first time and felt good today, so hopefully I’ll be in tonight.”
Clowe replaces forward Darroll Powe, who suffered what appeared to be a concussion in a Game 3 collision with Joel Ward.
No lineup changes for the Caps.
