\ Three years ago, the Nats benefited from Loaiza falling in their lap after a down year and pitching for a new contract. He won 12 games and pitched 217 innings on a one-year, $3 million deal.\

\ Now the Nats are hoping for the same thing out of Perez, who signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with incentives. Perez, who is limited to pitching in the accelerated minor league games until his work visa issues are settled, looked impressive, and could wind up being a steal for the Nationals.
