Second baseman Ronnie Belliard is day-to-day with a back injury he sustained during his final at-bat Tuesday and aggravated after he came in as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning on Wednesday.
“Thank God we’ve got a day off tomorrow,” Belliard said. “We’ll see what happens on Friday night (in Atlanta). Hopefully it’s only a couple of days.”
Belliard hit for Willie Harris in the sixth and stayed in the game at second base for two innings. But the Nationals had Alberto Gonzalez pinch hit for Belliard in the eighth inning once the pain flared up again.
“He took ground balls today and felt well,” manager Manny Acta said. “He just couldn’t take it.”
