More non-Strasburg news to report…
Chris Marrero, the Nationals’ top offensive prospect and the organization’s first-round draft pick in 2006, has been promoted from Class A Potomac to Class AA Harrisburg.
The promotion seems long overdue for Marrero, who has spent parts of the last three seasons at Class A and in 112 games this year was hitting .287 with 16 homers and 65 RBI. Acting GM Mike Rizzo had said recently he preferred not to bump the slugger up while he’s still mastering his defense at first base. But I suspect one reason for the move is that the Nats want Marrero to play in the Arizona Fall League, and you have to be at Class AA or higher to qualify.
Meanwhile, the Logan Kensing DFA move is official. Mike Morse has had his contract purchased from Class AAA Syracuse.
