Baseball America’s NL East prospects issue landed in the mailboxes here at TWT headquarters today, so here’s a quick rundown of the newest rankings of the Washington Nationals’ Top 10 prospects:

1. Jordan Zimmermann, RHP
2. Ross Detwiler, LHP
3. Chris Marrero, 1b
4. Michael Burgess, OF
5. Jack McGeary, LHP
6. Derek Norris, C
7. Destin Hood, OF
8. Adrian Nieto, C
9. J.P. Ramirez, OF
10. Esmailyn Gonzalez, SS

Some quick numbers to think about after looking at that list:

- Three of the players (Nieto, Hood and Ramirez) are 2008 draft picks

- None of the players spent any time above Class AA last season

- Five of the players return from last season’s list (No. 1 Marrero, Detwiler, Burgess, McGeary, Zimmermann)

- Zimmermann made the leap from seventh to first

- The oldest player: Detwiler, born March 6, 1986

- The youngest player: Hood, born April 30, 1990

Mark or Ben will weigh in with more analysis on Wednesday, which is also when Baseball America will put the list online. So be sure to check back here but also there.
