Scott Olsen has been scratched from his scheduled start tomorrow due to what the Nats are calling “tightness in his left lat.” That would be the latissimus dorsi, the muscle on the back of your shoulder. Whether it’s related to the shoulder tendinitis that landed Olsen on the DL for six weeks earlier this season remains to be seen. We should find out more details after the game.
In the meantime, Craig Stammen will now start tomorrow night against the Cubs. Stammen would have been the No. 5 starter coming out of the All-Star break, now he’ll be bumped up three days.
The rest of the rotation will stay the same, with Jordan Zimmerman going Saturday and Garrett Mock going Sunday. In theory, Olsen could start Monday against the Mets. But we’ll have to see if this injury allows him to return to the mound so soon. The hunch here: It won’t.
