Scott Olsen’s strained left lat muscle has turned into the problem the Nats feared it would be. The left-hander will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, interim manager Jim Riggleman said this morning, and J.D. Martin will be called up from Class AAA Syracuse to make his major-league debut.
Martin, who has an 8-3 record with a 2.66 ERA, has “thrown the best of anybody” at Syracuse, Riggleman said.
As for Olsen, he’ll be examined Monday, and the Nationals won’t have an idea of how severe the injury is until after that. He missed five weeks with left shoulder tendinitis and is headed back to the DL three starts after coming back from that injury.
