It looked like this was going to be a good night for the Nationals when Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the 3:11 rain delay that started in the top of the second inning and ended at 10:40 p.m. has done nothing to change that. They lead 7-0 after three innings.

Washington added five in the second, all of it coming after Ronnie Belliard and Wil Nieves struck out back-to-back. Adam Dunn punctuated the two-out rally with a grand slam, and that’s where we sit now.

From the looks of things, the Nats will add some more runs before this is over—San Diego doesn’t appear to have any pitchers who can consistently throw strikes tonight. Barring a serious bullpen meltdown—and at this hour, anything’s possible—the Nats should be on their way to a win here.
