Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk John Frey announced Wednesday that he’s running for attorney general in 2013, joining Albemarle Delegate Robert B. Bell, a fellow Republican, who said he was running earlier this month.
Mr. Frey was first elected clerk in 1991, and said in a statement that his experience running the state’s largest circuit court and one of the largest in the country would allow him to bring a “unique perspective” to the office.
The Fairfax County court staffs 161 and has a budget of more than $11 million.
State Sen. Mark D. Obenshain, Harrisonburg Republican, has indicated that he’s actively exploring a bid for the nomination.
Virginia Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II announced three weeks ago that he will run for governor in 2013.
