Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, disagrees with D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s executive order Thursday that prohibits public-safety officer from asking people about their immigration status.

According to Fox News, Mr. Stewart, a Republican who has led efforts in his county against illegal immigration, called the District’s policy — which has been in effect in one form or another for the last 20 years or so — an “abomination.”

He added: “This is the capital of the United States, and to have the nation’s capital as a sanctuary city where essentially federal law is not going to be enforced sends all the wrong messages — not just in the United States but around the world.”
