A St. Leo kind of day

Not every day you see a team record its largest margin of victory over a Division I team.

Like, ever.

I’m pretty sure that’s what went down tonight at Verizon Center.

Georgetown pulverized Savannah State 100-38, dominating from the start. The Hoyas had runs of 40-5 and 37-10. Really, the entire game was a big run.

And it sent me rushing to the record book to find out just where this ranks among the school’s all-time blowouts.

Savannah State coach Horace Broadnax acknowledged after the game the Tigers are a Division I program in name.

But since I’m pretty sure none of those programs were D-1 when they demolished by the Hoyas, that means tonight’s rout is a record-breaker just like that St. Leo game was 22 years ago.
