A numbers game for Terps basketball

It’s been a wild offseason for the Maryland basketball program, but at some point in the next few weeks, freshman guard Sean Mosley is expected to be given the go-ahead for his first season with the Terrapins.

And he already has a jersey number.

With the release of Maryland’s preseason prospectus (at least into my office mailbox, which I cleared out this morning) comes the psuedo-announcement that Mosley will wear No. 14.

That jersey number has collected mothballs for more than a decade in College Park. The last Terp to don No. 14 was walk-on Norman Fields, who had it for his first two seasons (1995-96 and 1996-97) before switching to No. 31 for his final two years in the program.

And that’s your Maryland basketball by the numbers for this sweltering July afternoon.
