Gist to the Spurs in the second round

Maryland forward James Gist’s wait during the NBA Draft ended when he went 57th overall to San Antonio.

All things considered, there are far, far worse fates than to get to go to training camp with the Spurs. Plus, there’s that whole reputation for not making too many scouting mistakes.

Gist is the third ACC player off the board, with J.J. Hickson and Sean Singletary (going at a surprisingly high but still well-deserved 42nd overall to Sacramento) going earlier.

Georgetown, of course, had Roy Hibbert picked in the first round by Toronto and is supposed to be on his way to Indiana in the Jermaine O’Neal deal. Patrick Ewing Jr. went 43rd overall to Sacramento.
