Here’s a quick little history lesson before I turn in for the night (thanks in part to the fantastic site bigbluehistory.net).

First, how about a full list of the nonconference opponents Kentucky lost to in Rupp Arena in the 10 seasons while Tubby Smith was the Wildcats’ coach (opponents’ final record and tournament appearance in parentheses)?

SEE RELATED:

12/27/97: Louisville (12-20)
11/25/00: Penn State (21-12, NCAA regional semifinal)
11/15/01: Western Kentucky (28-4, NCAA first round)
12/14/02: Michigan State (22-13, NCAA regional final)
12/27/03: Louisville (20-10, NCAA first round)
1/9/05: Kansas (23-7, NCAA first round)
12/3/05: North Carolina (23-8, NCAA second round)

OK, now how about a list of the nonconference opponents the Wildcats have lost to under Billy Gillispie in one season plus one game:

11/7/07: Gardner-Webb (16-16)
12/1/07: North Carolina (36-3, NCAA semifinal)
12/29/07: San Diego (22-14, NCAA second round)
1/5/08: Louisville (27-9, NCAA regional final)
11/14/08: VMI (TBA)

Seven losses in 10 seasons against five losses in barely more than one year. Hmmm.

Just sayin’…
