College basketball started last week. You might have noticed.

That means AP voting starts in earnest as well. The first regular-season poll comes out today.

As a weekly feature, I’ll include my full top 25 – as well as 20 more teams I’m monitoring closely for the next seven days.

There are some adjustments on this first ballot from the preseason. If you nearly lose on your home court, you’re not treated well when most everyone else is drilling substandard competition.

Kansas technically didn’t almost lose, but the defending national champs were tied at halftime with Missouri-Kansas City. Those Kangaroos are hardly malevolent marsupials, and I probably had the Jayhawks overrated at No. 18 to begin with. And by probably, I mean “almost certainly.”

It’d be silly to put a top-25 season past Bill Self’s team. But right now, with only one starter back from that memorable night in San Antonio, the Jayhawks probably don’t belong there.
