I wrote about the interest in the presidential election among Maryland’s football players, and there was one thing very striking about the whole thing: Hardly any of these guys were eligible to vote for either George W. Bush or John Kerry in 2004 since they were not 18 at the time.

A lot of these guys grew up in the area, so the hubbub isn’t anything new. But for a guy like Chris Turner, well, he’ll readily admit it’s vastly different from when he was just a high school senior in the L.A. ‘burbs four years ago.

Like a lot of people, he’ll be perched in front of a TV tonight (“I kind of have to,” he said) as election results roll in starting at 7 p.m.

He also carries a sentiment no doubt the entire country (regardless of political stripe) can agree with in the wake of the most protracted campaign in the nation’s history.

“Hopefully it won’t take three weeks before we find out who won,” Turner said.
