Dave Philistin had an important announcement in the players’ interview room.

It had everything to do with senior cornerback Kevin Barnes.

It turns out Barnes already has an invitation to the Senior Bowl, and Philistin seems to believe Barnes was the first guy in the country to receive one.

“You’ll have to call them ask them,” Philistin said. “That’s not going out on a limb, though.”

Barnes just started shaking his head at this point, but did concede he received his invite on Sept. 18. That would be exactly five days after he made California’s Jahvid Best lose his lunch on the field at Byrd Stadium.

It’s also exceptionally early for an invitation to a game to be played in late January.

“There’s no one before that, not even [Ohio State’s Jame] Laurinaitis,” Philistin said.

Philistin said he was joking. But the point remains – Barnes can make some postseason plans well before just about any other player in the country.
