It feels like the bye week can’t get here fast enough.

I mean, not asking Ralph Friedgen a whole lot today wouldn’t expedite the process. But it seems like everything that could possibly be said about Maryland’s trip to Virginia was offered up Sunday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

So things were quiet today … well, besides the contrived crowd noise that sounds like it came from a cross between a goat pen and a boat show.

Anyway, in terms of actual news, well, Ralph deflected my question about Nolan Carroll ‘s availability until the injury report comes out in the next 90 minutes. (My guess given his talk of needing more cornerbacks and the upcoming bye is that Carroll won’t play, but I’ve been wrong before).

Friedgen also said he believes the Terps will be forced to use true freshman lineman Justin Lewis at some point. Lewis is listed as a reserve right guard on the depth chart.

And Friedgen also fell back on the ever-reliable “gotta look at the tape” before demurring again on any possible offensive line changes. The closest he came to offering a hint was after my follow-up, he acknowledged the changes could be a mix of relatively unused guys (Paul Pinegar? Stephen St. John?) and shuffling the existing guys up front.

I’ll get into all those possibilities in the next post … assuming the injury report doesn’t pop up earlier than expected.
