The story of the day on Tuesday (and in today’s dead-tree editions) in undeniably senior cornerback Kevin Barnes‘ shoulder injury.

He’s officially out for Saturday’s game against N.C. State. But when a coach like Ralph Friedgen wants to let Barnes hear a complete diagnosis from a doctor rather than in the media, well, then the diagnosis probably isn’t very good.

I watched the replay of the hit that knocked Barnes out of Saturday’s 26-0 defeat of Wake Forest. His left shoulder went right into the back of Wake’s D.J. Boldin, and Barnes was immediately shown coming off the field. He didn’t return.

So that leads to stories like this one from me and this one from the Washington Post’s Eric Prisbell. All the signs are there that Barnes won’t be back for a while, if at all.

There will be more on that story later in the day, I’m sure.
