Yes, Maryland fans, the Terrapins are in the top 25.

But can they stay there? That’s a huge question that won’t be answered for another 10 days.

If the No. 25 Terps are like any of their ACC brethren, however, the answer is probably not.

Ranked ACC teams are a stunningly middling 8-10 this season, with Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech all yo-yoing into and out of the rankings at various points.

Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Wake Forest have all made their way into the polls at some juncture. Getting eight of 12 teams in isn’t bad. Here’s a look at the other power conferences:

* Big East: 4/8 (NR: Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse)
* Big Ten: 6/11 (NR: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue)
* Big 12: 6/12 (NR: Baylor, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, Nebraska, Texas A&M)
* Pac-10: 5/10 (NR: Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington, Washington State)
* SEC: 8/12 (NR: Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State)

By raw numbers and by percentages, that makes the ACC look pretty good.
