Loyal reader Fearthenoodle has figured it out – just e-mail me and you can get research on demand.

(EDIT at 11:15 a.m.: You can also e-mail me to offer corrections, as I got in regard to the 1996 game in this entry; sometimes, the numbers just blur together. Either way, all these numbers have been revised from the original).

Today’s request: Maryland’s record on Thursday night.

This is a reasonable thing to look up, since (a) Maryland plays next Thursday and (b) I already took the time to look up Virginia Tech’s performance on Thursdays.

This data is limited to the regular season (so don’t tell me a bowl was on a Thursday night) since the early 1990s – when ESPN began its Thursday night package in earnest. It should be noted not all of these games were televised by ESPN.

Overall, the Terrapins are 5-9 with the Thursday night lights (*-definitely non-ESPN):

Sept. 28, 1995: @Georgia Tech 31, #17 Maryland 3
Nov. 14, 1996: @Maryland 13, Georgia Tech 10
*Sept. 2, 1999: Maryland 6, @Temple 0
Sept. 30, 1999: @#9 Georgia Tech 49, Maryland 31
Sept. 28, 2000: #2 Florida State 59, @Maryland 7
Oct. 11, 2001: #22 Maryland 20, @#15 Georgia Tech 17 (OT)
Oct. 17, 2002: @Maryland 34, Georgia Tech 10
*Aug. 28, 2003: @Northern Illinois 20, #15 Maryland 13 (OT)
Oct. 23, 2003: @Georgia Tech 7, Maryland 3
Nov. 13, 2003: @Maryland 27, Virginia 17
Nov. 18, 2004: @#15 Virginia Tech 55, Maryland 6
Oct. 20, 2005: #3 Virginia Tech 28, @Maryland 9
Sept. 14, 2006: @#5 West Virginia 45, Maryland 24
Sept. 13, 2007: #4 West Virginia 31, @Maryland 14

Here’s some splits, even if they’re not necessarily in complete sentences.

By venue: Home (3-3) and road (2-6)

By coach: Duffner (1-1), Vanderlinden (1-2) and Friedgen (3-6)

By month: August (0-1), September (1-5), October (2-2) and November (2-1)

By league: ACC (4-6), Big East (1-2) and MAC (0-1)

By opponent: Temple (1-0), Virginia (1-0), Georgia Tech (3-3), Florida State (0-1), Northern Illinois (0-1), Virginia Tech (0-2), West Virginia (0-2)

By poll, opponent: Ranked (1-6) and unranked (4-3)

By poll, Maryland: While ranked (1-2) and while unranked (4-7)

And to finish up with the same metric as used in the Virginia Tech entry:

Record vs. teams that had winning seasons: 3-9
Record vs. teams that had losing seasons: 2-0 (1996 Georgia Tech, 1999 Temple)
