An interesting bye week addition at Maryland this year is a couple of JV games.

Ralph Friedgen wanted to have a few last season, but a quarterback shortage and later a ton of injuries zapped that possibility.

Maryland figures to have somewhere in the ballpark of 45-50 players available for today’s game against North Carolina Tech (EDIT: which is closed to the general public). First a couple ground rules:

* No true freshman can play without burning a redshirt. So no A.J. Francis, no Justin Lewis, no Demetrius Hartsfield, etc.

* A player can participate in 12 games between the regular season and the JV squad. So it’s not like regular contributors will receive a look today.

* Some common sense will play a role, too. Yes, Travis Iveycould technically play, but what good would that accomplish.

So based on those criteria, here’s a semi-decent (though admittedly not complete) rundown of the guys who could/might play today:

5-Morgan Green
11-Jamarr Robinson
16-Rashad Henry
19-Femi Akinwande
21-Trenton Hughes
25-Dan Bonato
26-Mike Barbour
32-Nick Wallace
36-Taylor Watson
37-Ted Townsley
47-Jeff Clement
53-Stephen Hargett
57-Matt Harraka
58-Derek Drummond
61-Lee Oliver
64-Tim Downs
65-Danny Edwards
66-Maurice Hampton
68-Obum Akunyili
69-Joe Faiella
71-Paul Pinegar
71-Bearthur Johnson
73-Stephen St. John
78-Andrew Gonnella
79-Kyle Sappington
81-David May
85-Tony Logan
87-Webb Dulin
88-Quinton McCree
93-Ian Davidson
98-Chris Rhodes

Yes, that’s just 31 guys. There are some other walk-ons (I don’t have their full names available to me, unfortunately) who will presumably be in the mix.

Obviously, there is a lot to see from Robinson and Logan on offense, as well as from the posse of redshirt freshman offensive linemen who have yet to see serious action.

There won’t be availability afterward, but I’ll be sure to pass along an update from the proceedings later in the evening.
