Scott added to Maxwell list

These college football award lists are kind of funny.

For three weeks, Maryland tailback Da’Rel Scott looked like a top-10 back nationally.

Since returning from a shoulder injury two weeks ago, Scott has 34 carries for 75 yards.

But the body of work still remains pretty good: Five games, 482 yards, 4 TD. So he was added to the Maxwell Award watch list, which now has by my count 82 players (including Maryland wideout Darrius Heyward-Bey).

The Maxwell Award, by the way, is awarded to the top player in the nation.

Since I’m on the page with the full watch list, there’s no harm in pointing out that half of the Big 12’s starting quarterbacks are on it: Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Missouri’s Chase Daniel, Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell, Texas’ Colt McCoy, Kansas’ Todd Reesing and Oklahoma State’s Zac Robinson. And that group doesn’t even include Colorado’s Cody Hawkins, Baylor’s Robert Griffin and Kansas State’s Josh Freeman, who are all pretty good themselves.

Must be fun watching games in that league every week.
