The game of lacrosse dominoes officially continued this morning.

Maryland had an opening created when assistant Andrew Copelan took over at Fairfield, and it ultimately turned to former Terrapin midfielder Ryan Moran, who had been at Navy for the last few years.

That wasn’t a surprising route to take, even though it’s probably fair to say Maryland coach Dave Cottle had plenty of options to choose from. Little wonder why: Paul Cantabene (Villa Julie), Jeff Shirk (VMI) and Copelan have all worked on Cottle’s staff in some capacity this decade, and they’re all now head coaches.

So Cottle replaced one young, rising coach with another, which makes sense since veteran Dave Slafkosky remains the other full-time assistant. That achieves a nice balance.

Moran’s move also creates an interesting situation at Navy, where Richie Meade has to replace an assistant coach for the second straight September (John Tillman got the top job at Harvard last year around this time).
