A couple oddball stats as I inch closer to packing up in the student union…

* Maryland is 27-26-2 openers all-time.

SEE RELATED:

* The Terps are 2-5 in conference openers under Ralph Friedgen, with wins in 2001 and 2004.

* Maryland is 2-10 in ACC openers since 1996

* The last time Maryland was at .500 all-time in conference openers was 1972, when it tied N.C. State. Its record at the time was 9-9-2, The Terps proceeded to win their next seven ACC openers, 12 of their next 13 and 14 of their next 16.

* Maryland has opened with Clemson six times previously, but only twice since 1979. The list (home team bolded):

1953: Maryland 20, Clemson 0
1961: Maryland 24, Clemson 21
1977: Maryland 21, Clemson 14
1979: Maryland 19, Clemson 0
1990: Clemson 18, Maryland 17 (in Baltimore)
2005: Clemson 28, Maryland 24

That’s an odd and completely random trend. It means absolutely nothing, but the home team’s 0-6 record in those games is an unusual nugget you can impress your friends with.
