CLEMSON, S.C. – Time to end the Maryland football team’s latest crazy day with another crazy stat.

Maryland has somehow toppled four straight ranked foes dating back to last year – Rutgers and Boston College in ‘07, California and Clemson this month

Before this run, the Terps hadn’t defeated back-to-back ranked opponents since 1984 (Miami and Clemson.

But three or four straight? You have to go back to the pre-ACC days. From 1949 to 1952, the Terps upended Boston U., Missouri, Michigan State, Tennessee, Georgia and Navy. The Missouri victory came in the 1950 Gator Bowl, the Tennessee upset in the 1952 Sugar Bowl.

As for Maryland’s next chance to take down a ranked team? Other than Wake Forest’s visit on Oct. 18 (and who knows if the Demon Deacons will still be ranked after losing to Navy) and the Nov. 6 trip to Virginia Tech, there isn’t an obvious candidate left on the schedule.
