Rankings out; Maryland 26th in AP poll

This week’s rankings are out, and (somewhat surprisingly) Maryland has nearly cracked the top 25.

Let’s put it this way: It sure didn’t seem like I was watching a top-25 team yesterday, even if Maryland merits credit for winning. But at this point, the Terps have certainly earned consideration.

The Terrapinsare No. 26 in the AP poll, which has only two ACC teams (No. 20 Virginia Tech and No. 25 Wake Forest) in the rankings. Clemson, by the way, is now without a vote, completing the Tigers’ fall from top-10 preseason hype.

As for Maryland, it would seem a victory on Saturday at Virginia would probably ensure Maryland its first appearance in the AP rankings since late in the 2006 season.
