It’s late in the spring, a time for position switches galore. But you have to go waaaay down the depth chart to find a new one at Maryland.
Coach Ralph Friedgen said junior walk-on Louis Berman has gone from linebacker to fullback, a fairly common position switch as those sorts of things go.
Friedgen said Berman was the third-string middle linebacker, behind Drew Gloster and Avery Murray. When Alex Wujciak comes back from injury, make that fourth-string. All three of those guys have at least two years of eligibility remaining.
The outlook, though, isn’t much sunnier at fullback. Cory Jackson will be back from injury in August, and junior Haroon Brown and sophomore Taylor Watson are Jackson’s top backups.
If nothing else, it gives Maryland a wee bit more flexibility – and probably provides Berman more of a chance, however slight, of making it onto the field before his career is through.
