The Wooden Award announced a list of 50 candidates for next season.

Technically, there’s probably more than 4,000 “candidates” – 12 per team for every 340 or so Division I programs.

And, yes, that 4,000 number is mere semantics.

Realistically, the eventual winner is probably on the 50-man list.

And Maryland’s Greivis Vasquez is on the 50-man list.

So that seemed worth passing along on a slow summer day.

Vasquez, not surprisingly, is part of a healthy ACC representation on the list. In fact, 20 percent of the list is ACC guys.

Other players from the league included are:

C Solomon Alabi, Florida State
F Al-Farouq Aminu, Wake Forest
F Trevor Booker, Clemson
F Ed Davis, North Carolina
G Sylven Landesberg, Virginia
F Gani Lawal, Georgia Tech
G Jon Scheyer, Duke
F Kyle Singler, Duke
F Deon Thompson, North Carolina

Locally, Georgetown’s Greg Monroe cracked the list. Semi-locally, Virginia Commonwealth’s Larry Sanders is included as well.
