Anyway, the most notable bit on longer-reaching news is defensive tackle Joe Vellano’s stress fracture – and the surgery he underwent today.

Coach Ralph Friedgen said he expects Vellano back for the Clemson game – which is Oct. 3.

That cuts a little more from Maryland’s depth on the defensive line, and I’ll have more on that a bit later.

But one thing’s for certain – there’s a little extra pressure on Ian Davidson and Zach Kerr than there was before Vellano went down.
