Banner night for Coleman, Toliver

← return to D1SCOURSE

It wasn’t a stretch to say this was going to be a night that belonged to Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver.

The two Maryland seniors were coming off a combined 58-point outing in a beatdown of Duke, and this was to be their final regular-season game at Comcast Center. There was a pregame ceremony before hand, and their jerseys were to be honored afterward.

But everything in between belonged to them as well.

They combined to score Maryland’s first 30 points, and 35 of the Terps’ 45 points in the first half. They sent reporters scurrying to see if two Terps had ever scored 30 points in the same game (nope) and whether the Duke game was the peak of their combined scoring powers (it was until last night).

To be specific, it came when Coleman (32 points) produced a game-icing 3-point play in the closing minutes. Toliver wound up with 27 points, playing the full 40 minutes.

Here, for all it’s worth, are the finest combined days for Coleman and Toliver, at least from a scoring perspective:
