I wrote a little on the football coaches convention last week, and how it was a good place to discreetly interview job candidates. Say, for a vacant defensive coordinator spot.

So that hypothesis doesn’t look so great now, since Ralph Friedgen hired Massachusetts head coach Don Brown and even had some time to take in Maryland’s basketball game yesterday during a recruiting weekend.

But the convention is still starting today in Nashville. And since the convention’s schedule isn’t too hard to come across, there’s a nugget Maryland fans might find interesting.

Offensive coordinator James Franklin is scheduled to be a part of a “buzz session” on quarterbacks at 8 tonight. So that’s sort of interesting – probably a lot more if you’re a coach than if you’re not.

Meanwhile, Navy’s Danny O’Rourke will speak at a special teams chalk talk session at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Of course, membership in the AFCA is required to actually attend pretty much anything at the convention, so knowing that it’s happening is about all the info I can provide.
