Lots of television cameras in College Park this afternoon, and here’s guessing the motivation didn’t stem very much from tomorrow’s meeting of unranked teams (Maryland and Miami) at Comcast Center.

Instead, there was no doubt some curiosity as to how coach Gary Williams would handle things after a public dust-up with his athletic department this week.

Unsurprisingly, he had just about zero interest in answering my question about how difficult the last few days had been for him and whether it would be a distraction to the Terrapins.

“I’m just talking about Miami and our team for the rest of the year,” Williams said. “That’s it.”

A smart move – though the wiseacre in me wonders how long it’s going to take for Williams talking about Miami to grow old.

That’s a jest on this end. Williams will probably be chatting about the Terps, their opponent, the ACC and college basketball in general. Pretty much anything that’s not internal.

It’s the wise play. Placing a band-aid over a perceived bullet wound doesn’t help much, but it’s a whole lot better than adding another bullet.
