The good news for Maryland today – forward Steve Goins was back at practice Monday.
“Without the boot, too,” coach Gary Williams dryly.
Williams said Goins (left ankle) won’t play tomorrow against Morgan State after missing about two weeks.
Meanwhile, forward Jerome Burney (stress fracture-right foot) remains in a boot. Williams said Burney was examined again yesterda. Burney is improving, but not quite enough to ditch the footwear.
At this point, you realistically have to wonder whether or not either of those guys can make a significant contribution the rest of the way. And Williams has an answer for that.
“It’s hard, but you can always play defense and rebound,” Williams said. “There probably won’t be much scoring from them, but there can be defense and rebounding. You don’t have to know everything like you’re an offensive guard or something when you’re a big guy. That’s why point guards coach.”
