A lot of Louisville fans in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Took a stroll through town this afternoon, and couldn’t turn a corner without encountering Louisville fans.

There were fewer Michigan State fans.

Even fewer Kansas fans (even outside the Kansas team hotel).

And I spied one Arizona fan.

Granted walking somewhere in the vicinity of 20 blocks isn’t the best gauge. But geography suggests it isn’t too far off from being likely.

Not seen in downtown Indy: Kentucky fans, who are no doubt gleeful they will have another another new coach after the dismissal of Billy Gillispie.

Speaking of Gillispie, how about this item from that story:

[Kentucky AD] Mitch Barnhart said the university did not plan to pay Gillispie a $6 million buyout that was to be part of his never completed seven-year deal. …

Gillispie never signed the long-term contract, and Barnhart said the school would abide by the memorandum of understanding, which he considered a year-to-year contract. Gillispie made $2.3 million annually.

It’s not a crime to be arrogant. And it’s not a crime to be stupid. But the lesson here is that it is both stupid and arrogant not to sign a contract that contains a $6 million golden parachute, and Gillispie has no reason to whine if he doesn’t come close to collecting that much money when he could have assured himself of it by putting pen to paper at some point in the last 23 months.
